Pell Wins Manchester Country Club Spring Classic in Playoff Thriller

The final round of the Manchester Country Club Spring Classic concluded on Sunday with an exciting playoff finish, as Sebastian Pell defeated Garren Poirier on the first playoff hole to capture the championship title at Manchester Country Club.

Pell entered the final round trailing by three shots but made a strong move up the leaderboard with a round of 70 (-2), one of the best scores of the tournament. His steady play over the closing 18 holes allowed him to erase the deficit and finish tied atop the leaderboard with Poirier at a 36-hole total of 144 (E).

Poirier followed up his opening-round 72 (E) with another even-par round of 72 on Sunday to force the playoff. The pair, both members of Rutland Country Club, returned to the course tied after regulation and battled through one sudden-death playoff hole before Pell emerged victorious to claim the Manchester Country Club Spring Classic title.

The championship battle highlighted a competitive final round, with Pell’s under-par performance proving to be the difference as he surged through the field late in the tournament.

In the Senior Division, Greg Wells successfully held onto the lead he earned during Saturday’s opening round. Wells posted a final-round 77 (+5) to finish the tournament at 151 (+7), good enough for a four-shot victory.

Wells maintained control throughout the championship and was able to withstand the pressure from the chasing pack to secure the Senior Division title at Manchester Country Club.

The Vermont Golf Association would like to thank Manchester Country Club for hosting this year’s Manchester Country Club Spring Classic and for providing a great test for players throughout the weekend.
