Playing in your first Vermont Golf Association (VGA) tournament is one of the best ways to take your game to the next level. Whether you’re looking to compete, meet other golfers, or simply experience tournament golf for the first time, getting started is easier than you might think.
Follow these simple steps and you’ll be ready to tee it up in your first VGA event.
Before you can compete in most VGA tournaments, you’ll need an official GHIN Handicap Index. This ensures fair competition by allowing players of different skill levels to compete on an even playing field.
There are two easy ways to get a GHIN in Vermont:
If you’re a member at a golf course, simply contact the golf shop. They can help you set up your GHIN account and get you started right away.
If you’re not a member of a golf course, no problem. You can join the Vermont Golf Association’s e-club, Lakeside Golf Club, which provides a GHIN handicap.

Once you have your GHIN, you’ll be able to post scores and establish your Handicap Index—an essential step for tournament play.
All VGA tournaments are managed through Golf Genius, the official tournament platform of the Vermont Golf Association.
To register for events, you’ll need to create a free VGA account.
